Man this changing weather is going to kill me - earlier this week I was at work in boots, trousers and a thick jumper and now its boiling.

Woke up this morning to a hilarious text message from [livejournal.com profile] flatlanddan who is up in Glasgow for the Collectormania event saying that Gareth David Lloyd had managed to miss his plane and wouldn't be there until 3:00 p.m.

At 3:20 I then got another text message that he still hadn't arrived and had managed to miss two planes and a train. Nice going Gareth! But at least this time he managed to remember to keep his phone switched on.

Apparently he did eventually show up and took Dan and Angie presenting him with an alarm clock with good grace. He's apparently promised to use it faithfully! I'm very pleased for Dan and Angie that he did eventually show up but seriously he is a bit useless bless him. I really can't see any organisers wanting to book him after this. I mean he doesn't have to do conventions or signing appearances - noone will think any less of him for it. Plenty of actors I adore wouldn't go near the con circuit if their livelihoods depended on it. But if by some miracle another organiser does take another chance on him (at a probably vastly reduced rate I would imagine)he really does need to grasp the fundamental concept that showing up and on time is really quite important if you want to maintain your fanbase!

Saw Craig Chalmers in the Joseph tour today - I'll do a full report tomorrow, but he was surprisingly good - I mean a 1000 times better than any of his performances on Any Dream Will Do and Chris Barton was also fantastic - granted as Benjamin he didn't get a lot of solo time but he was in a class of his own compared to the other actors playing the brothers.

Conventions = ££££= booze. Words to live by! It was flatlanddan and Randommagic who gave it to him!

Oh how I laughed when I heard GDL was late arriving in Glasgow but at least he got there, I guess.

I wonder if he's being pressed into the cons by his agent when he'd really rather be in bed. She needs to take him in hand though if he seriously wants to carry on doing them.

(By the way, I keep popping by to read your journal so do you mind if I friend you?)

To be fair when he did show up (and he clearly did make a serious effort to do so as he was apparently as stressed as hell when he did get there) he was absolutely lovely to my friends and took them taking the piss out of him with good grace. His claim about Bad Wolf is that he was tucked up in bed by 2, got up early enough to travel before realising that it was going to be virtually impossible because of the weather and that his agent gave him the wrong contact details so he couldn't speak to the organisers. Doesn't quite explain how they couldn't contact him unless all the numbers given out by his agent were wrong or why he didn't think to simply contact the hotel but he was apparently suitably contrite.

Doesn't mean I entirely forgive him (Bad Wolf was the only event I have ever come back from feeling completely down rather than elated) but I'm sure this past weekend was enough to get him repeat invites on the Collectormania circuit and at least salvaged something of his reputation.

Sure friend away - very happy for you to!

He seriously cocked up re Bad Wolf and he knows it. Missing the plane was stupid but as you say he put himself out to make sure he got there. I kind of feel a bit "idiot child" about him at this point -more amused than annoyed. Clearly he's just a bit of a hopeless case when it comes to getting organised :)

I remain a little wary about travelling anywhere just on the back of him though.

Derek vaguely mooted to me that they might try again with him but not sure how serious he was (can't always tell with him!!!).

I think the will is there but as you said the organisational skills are sadly lacking. It's clearly him that wants to do conventions because I can't imagine his agent is exactly begging him to do events in Telford (like he did with the first Expo there) or a sports arena in Glasgow (an event which from all accounts was very very quiet). He wants to do them it just seems to be the actual getting there part that he seems to have difficulty with.

I do still want to meet him - but no I won't ever travel purely to see him alone. Bad Wolf was a costly exercise for me sadly.

I'm sure Tenth Planet would want him again - I imagine that once you've got him through the doors he'd be an amazing guest but you couldn't blame them for being very very wary!

No on reflection I guess the cons he's done so far aren't exacty high profile locations. I do get the impression he likes to meet the fans, its the execution of actually doing so he struggles with :)

I'd still like to see him but like you remain cautious for now.
