Jan. 17th, 2007 09:19 pmSo TR Knight appeared on Ellen to discuss Isiah Washington's latest outburst and man is he a class act. Clearly uncomfortable, clearly quite distressed by the whole thing but not prepared to lie about the incident or sweep it under the rug for the sake of a cushy job. The whole thing just pains me so much because I do think Washington is one of the best actors on the show and Christina and Burke together just slay me - their relationship just has so many layers and it feels like a real nuanced relationship rather than the soap opera silliness of McDreamy and Meredith.
But I just can't watch Washington any more - watching the Burke/George scenes are excrutiating because they're supposed to have this mentor/student thing going and yet you know just how appallingly little respect Washington has for his co-star. I have never understood homophobia - its completely beyond me. Can't even begin to comprehend it. And the longer that Shonda Rimes and ABC allow this matter to trundle on without a statement the more it seems that they are condoning homophobic slurs. I'm so pleased that Katie Heigl immediately stood up for TR Knight on Monday and didn't keep quiet - she seems like a true friend to him. So whilst I do think that Seattle Grace will be a poorer place without Burke I really do hope that they fire Washington's sorry ass. And soon.

Date: 2007-01-22 11:58 pm (UTC)I don't know about you, but I've had to work with people who are racist and homophobic. The unfortunate part of this is that if they do the work the higher ups want, you're SOL. They'll stay until and unless they become a detriment to the organization.
