Aw crap.

I guess Rhydian should have cried more.

Oh well I 'm sure someone will sign him up to a record contract and if they don't Andrew Lloyd Webber will have him in the West End before too long.

But seriously - the wrong result.

You really disliked Rhydian that much?

I didn't watch the early stages of the competition (in which from the clips I've seen he came across appallingly) but I've loved him in all the live shows - he seems like a humble and nice guy slightly terrified by all the exposure and his voice is incredible. I'd buy his cd tomorrow but as much as I like the kind of music Leon enjoys singing I don't think enough of him as a performer to want to listen to it. But these shows don't produce one winner (I looked up X-Factor out of curiousity as I've never watched it before and it was interesting that the most successful act (apart from Leona) to have come out of the show is G4 and they never won)but several so I'm sure Cowell is feverishly plotting how to make the most money out of the three finalists as we speak.

Leona who? (I don't really follow the charts.)

Something about Rhydian I really couldn't deal with. Though yeah, he's an amazing singer.

No-one survives these kinda shows. Personally, I like all round talent. People who write their own songs, play their own instruments and sing.

Cowell probably is. (David Boreanaz was on Graham Norton so I watch it, and they had Sharon Osbourne too, and called Same Difference "Satan's Children. I liked the name.)

Leona was the X-Factor winner last year. I didn't watch it and I don't follow the charts either but I've had to travel a bit for work lately and whenever you turn on MTV her song Bleeding Love is on (you've probably heard it even if you didn't know what it was). Plus she got some press for the fact that her album kept Kylie off the top spot.

Its interesting that generally the winners of these shows tend to fade away but the quirkier ones tend to have a career. Will Young managed to win Pop Idol and have a career but I couldn't name any of teh other X-Factor winners.

There is so much money to be made from Rhydian and Same Difference its silly - more so I suspect than with Leon. He swung the patriotic vote tonight but his core audience will be fickle teens who will move on swiftly after 6 months if he isn't carefully handled. Meanwhile Same Difference have the pre-teens eating out of their hands and Rhydian has the kind of fanbase that covers teens to grannies so I'm sure he'll do wonderfully. We should definitely re-name Same Difference Satan's Children though - that's an awesome name for them!

I think Rhydian was rhobbed!

Leon, sweet though he was, had several bum notes in the final. I think Rhydian hasn't had a single one in the whole competition. His version of 'Somewhere' was astonishing good. I'd buy his cd, but never Leon's.

'Satan's Children' - lol!

I agree that the winners aren't always the most successful. Whatever happened to Steve Brookstein, for instance? (I think that was his name, he won a couple of years ago).
G4 have split up, IIRC, but they did pretty well for runners-up. And actually, didn't Gareth Gates win Pop Idol & Will Young come second?
And on American Idol, it's Chris Daughtry - kicked out well before the final - who's had the biggest-selling album. 'Nuff said. Leona is the only winner I can think of who has made a splash.
Apparently last year a big agent/producer (someone I vaguely know through a friend) was offered all three top runners well before the final. And I think he was outbid!
Clearly, whoever makes it that far can pick & choose their contracts. There isn't just one winner.
Rhydian will be in the West End pretty soon, I reckon.

Will Young actually won - Gareth Gates came sceond but yes I'm sure Rhydian will do well.

Steve Brookstein is I think on the Jazz/folk circuit and is a moderate sucess.

But yes I think Cowell will sign up both Rhydian and Same Difference - you can always tell how he feels about a win by whether they show his reaction or not. And there were absolutely no camera shots of him after Leon won....which means he was deeply pissed off.

I just checked, yup, you're right! For some reason I thought Gates won - probably would've helped my recall if I'd actually watched Pop Idol.. ;-)

I love that Cowell is so transparent that they dare not show his expression if the 'wrong' one wins. I guess poker face is not necessary in his line of work.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if he signed up Rhydian and Same Difference. Though I was kind of hoping never to see SD's smug faces again... ;-)
