Aug. 2nd, 2006 11:17 pmSo I'm all booked up for Asylum the Supernatural convention that Jared is attending next year in the UK. Thanks to a friend who booked in advance for me I have the incredibly low ticket number of 10! Really looking forward to this one - I go to a lot of conventions anyway (three so far this year, a Battlestar Galactica event this weekend and a Serenity con in September) but I am ridiculously excited at the prospect of meeting Jared! Is anyone else going to this? I would love to meet up with other fans out there - get a chance to put a face to a user name!
So how did I manage to miss that Ben Edlund has joined the writing team? I love that guy - his Smile Time episode of Angel was hilarious and his Jaynestown episode of Firefly was comic genius. I guess they've bought him in to handle the quirkier episodes. Which is promising because I confess I wasn't a fan of Hell House - the show's first attempt to do out and out comedy. The whole endeavour fell rather flat for me and the boys just seemed really uncomfortable in that episode - their laughter just felt very forced.
And finally a rec: Midnight at the Majestic by

Sam/Dean
Written for the 50 states challenge and set post Devil's Trap the story features a grief stricken Sam and Dean searching for echoes of the dead in Georgia. Highly atmospheric and rich with detail this story is a feast for the senses and the Sam/Dean characterisation is as superb as I'vecome to expect from
maygra. Love the details of Dean staring down the gator and Sam protecting Dean and his grief from the ghosts he sees all around. And I love the ending - the one ghost that Sam can't see - but Dean can. Wonderful.

Date: 2006-08-03 09:37 am (UTC)I looked at the unofficial UK con but decided against it. I'm based in the centre of London so to get up to York for the Saturday morning I would have had to take the Friday off and because I attend so many other cons over the course of a year I like to try and save my holiday for them. Plus I do like attending events with guests I confess - my autograph collection is getting pretty extensive!
Good luck with your A Level results!

Date: 2006-08-03 02:49 pm (UTC)I figure that it's more exciting with guests, and my autograph collection is not exactly big. (I have Paul Goddard's - Stark from Farscape) and that's it. Which is really tiny considering I think I've been to every Collectormania that's been in MK - and there's normally at least 20 guests there from various things).
As for getting there. Well, depending on the three places I may end up going from, London was by far the easiest - it was only 2 1/2 hour train rather than the 4 hours from everywhere else.
Just because I'm curious - what's a con actually like? I reckon collectormania is a little different and I've never been to a real SF con, and I'd like to try one.
I'm not sure luck covers it, looking for a miracle of some sort with those results. *sighs*

Date: 2006-08-08 08:15 pm (UTC)Conventions are way more fun and relaxed and you get to spend tons of time with the actors. I just got back from a Battlestar Galactica con at the weekend and it was amazing fun. Cons tend to follow the same pattern. On the Friday night there was a meet and greet with the actors with them wandering around to each table of attendees and chatting for a while, followed by a disco which went on till 2. On the Saturday each of the four guests gave a one hour talk and you could pay extra (normally £10-£15) to have your photo taken with each actor (they also autograph the photo). There's an autograph session, fancy dress and another disco. The guests hung around for hours and even danced along with some seriously cheesy music! On the Sunday there was more of the same and a closing ceremony and raffle.
They're huge fun - although exhausting. If you can you should definitely pop along to Asylum - even if it's only for the day. I bet Jared is going to be an amazing con guest.
