Brilliant Dean centric coda to Asylum. I'm still annoyed at how weakly that episode ended with Sam half heartedly apologising to Dean for pointing the gun at him and pulling the trigger 4 times! Cracked gives the episode the emotional resolution it should have had. Dean is no push over here - he may recognise that the incident wasn't Sam's fault but he doesn't rush to instantly forgive him either. Brutal, beautiful and very very real. Superb.

To Forgive and Forget by joyfulgirl41

Very similar to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode Normal Again this is nevertheless an intriguing AU take on the end of Asylum.

Gen

Absolutely heartrending AU tale in which Dean instead of being healed by the handy deus ex machina of a bound reaper, dies of heart failure. Desperately sad without being mushy or sentimental this is one of the very best codas to an episode I have read.

Scarecrow

Crossroads: The Unlit Path by eighth_horizon

Pitch black AU tale in which Dean is sacrificed to the scarecrow and Sam wreaks a bloody revenge on the town.

Shadow

Heartbreaking look at a deeply traumatised Sam and Dean after the end of Shadow. The section in which a devastated Dean silently breaks down unwilling to let Sam see how terrified he is is agonising to read.

Gen

As much a character study of John as a coda to Shadow this is a gentle bitter sweet look at John as he is forced to run and leave his children behind.

At Night is still one of the best Supernatural stories I've read. I would hate the events in it to happen on the show but Pixel 0 sells the ending so well it rips my heart out every time.

These recs are awesome. I had read some before, but went back and read 'em again anyway, and it was still a pleasure. And it would have been a total shame to miss "You will not die," which I would have done if not for stopping in here. So, thanks!

I have a few of my own you may not be aware of, though I can't guarantee you'll think they're worth recc'ing:

Atonement is post-Asylum Gen. Also a resolution fic for that dangling ending. It's up for The Lawrence Awards.

Closure is post-Skin Slash (a little AU).
Neither Predator Nor Prey is post-Benders slash.
Truths Spoken In Anger is another post-Skin Slash (more AU). Something about "Skin" set off a lot of slash.

And now I am agrieved, because I know there is another post-Asylum thing I've read, but I can't recall the author. She definitely felt that Sam should not be forgiven so easily. Think her name begins with an "s". Clearly, this will bug me all night. :(

Also some "Missing Scenes" drabbles, Gen and Slash. These really come to mind because "Scarecrow" was on again tonight, and the first Gen drabbles is... well, see for yourself. :0
