I don't think that Stage Fright has been dropped as such - just had to make way for the Doctor Who monster competition - which I can't comment on as we haven't seen any of the VT clips yet. They certainly wouldn't drop it simply because JB was winning - after all he loves that!
I think the Herald interview just mentioned the sword fighting that he did in Robin Hood and the fact that he'd injured himself doing the Stage Fright sections - in the Pilot they showed VT of him completely throwing his back out doing the fire twirling training.
