I think this fic is best summed up as "Be careful what you wish for." Bleak and desperately sad.
So in other Supernatural news:
Looks like we can put a face to Alex Sue.
Aw look she's cute and blonde and perky and brave and sassy and bold and oh dear god in heaven just kill me now.........
Given that the Veronica Mars fanzine which interviewed her (and in which she revealed she had a recurring role on Supernatura)l never actually asked what role she was playing in Supernatural (bless them) granted she could be playing Angela or Tessa. However, the fact that she was in Veronica Mars - very much Dawn Ostroff's pet project suggests very heavily both that she is Alex Sue and that the character is being shoehorned into the show at the network's insistence.
As much as I loved Season 1 I do think that Kripke made one mistake - he killed off Pastor Jim and Caleb too quickly. Whilst I liked the casual brutality of Meg slaughtering them before we'd had a chance to get to know them it did seem to me to be an error to eradicate such significant figures in the boy's childhoods (Pastor Jim especially) before we'd had a chance to see them interacting with Sam and Dean. There is a part of me that feels that Kripke has realised in hindsight that this was a mistake and that is why he's determined to show the wider hunter network in Season 2. However, there are plenty of ways to do that without introducing a Mommy substitute and a cute sassy Mary Sue to drool over Dean.
If they were going to inflict this character upon us why couldn't they have taken a fresh approach to the casting? Why not have Alex be black, hispanic or asian? Why not go for an Alex that's older than Dean/Ackles or for an actress who doesn't fit the conventionally good looking mould? Anyone other than the typical bleached blonde cheerleader type. The fact that she's half a decade younger than Ackles doesn't inspire confidence either - he's already been saddled with one unlikely on-screen romance with a far younger co-star in Smallville - I doubt he's thrilled at potentially having to do all the heavy lifting in another.
To be fair I know nothing about the actress as I haven't seen Veronica Mars Season 2 (watched some of season 1 - great writing but I found Kristin Bell to be a hard and utterly unlikeable actress so didn't finish the season) but they've stuck her with a Mary Sue character and unless she give's the kind of performance that would make Meryl Streep say "Damn that bitch is good" the chances are that she's going to be subject to Lana Lang scale negativity from the fans.
Ah well guess I just need to take a deep breath and repeat the mantra that got me through the tricky times of Alias Season three and the horror of Lauren Reed:
IS SHE DEAD YET?
On a cheerier note the promo pics from In My Time of Dyingare very pretty. Love the last 4. How much do you want to bet that John is already dead in that scene? He'll stroll into Dean's room, whisper something to him (which we won't find out until sweeps) and then leave and then Sam or a doctor will come in and break the bad news to Dean. Gulp!
