Haunting look at a disintegrating Ianto as he has to cope with Jack leaving him alone.

Well written trio of vignettes detailing Jack's year in captivity.

Myfanwy's Song by [livejournal.com profile] sister_luke

Very unusual look at the missing year from Myfanwy's perspective.

The Density of Water, The Weight of Air by [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane

Latest in the Lovers in a Dangerous Time series this has Jack/Ianto reuniting after the events of Last of the Timelords. Wonderful characterisation and pitch perfect dialogue.

Wrong Turn, Right Turn by [livejournal.com profile] tanarian

Written for [livejournal.com profile] tw_flashfic's Lost in the Hub challenge this has Ianto finding himself face to face with a future version of Jack - lovely and rather sad.

Beautiful at time heartbreaking look at Jack and Ianto's relationship over the years.

Short clever Jack pov piece as he ponders the different meanings of Ianto's suits.

And Drive, And Drive by [livejournal.com profile] unamaga

Boys and their toys. Sam and Dean and all kinds of vibrating fun. Scorching hot.

Your Bridge in this Storm by [livejournal.com profile] dontyouwaitup

Wonderful case based post Crossroad Blues fic. The ghost story is deeply affecting and Sam and Dean's characterisation is spot on.And to think this is her first ever Supernatural story!

He Doesn't Show Much These Days by [livejournal.com profile] coffee_in_bed

John/OFC John/Ellen

Very strong angsty John character study. Bitter, sad and really kinda beautiful.

Disposable Heroes by [livejournal.com profile] mcee

Pitch black look at a possible future for our intrepid heroes. Very cleverly crafted but most definitely not a happy story.

All This Present Tense and Ghosts and Clouds and Nameless Things by [livejournal.com profile] esorlehcar

Two more installments in her incredible Down to the End verse. Super schmoopy and just adorable.

Work has been hideously busy lately and weekends have been taken up with Christmas shopping and Christmas drinks so I haven't had much time to keep up with my flist so apologies if I owe anyone any comments. Plus my attempt at making mince pies failed dismally - they looked more like mince pie vol-u=vents

Anyway here's some recs:

Little Rattle Stilt by [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope

No sex, no violence, no blood and guts and yet this is without a doubt one of the most distressing Supernatural fics I've ever read. Little Sammy is taken away from his family by "kindly" concerned adults at his school. Sam's fear and confusion over what is happening to him is incredibly upsetting to read. Utterly gut wrenching.

As Night Comes On by [livejournal.com profile] geminigrl11

Unusual and affecting deathfic as the Winchester boys leave not with a bang but a whimper.

Our Beginnings Never Know Our Ends by [livejournal.com profile] faye_dartmouth

Well written angsty fic as Jess returns as a vengeful spirit hell bent on killing Sam.

Thanksgiving, Winchester Style by [livejournal.com profile] destina

Gorgeous thanksgiving story with Sam and Dean realising how truly grateful they are to have each other. Dean conjuring up probably the worst Thanksgiving meal ever is adorabe and heartbreaking at the same time.

Thankful by [livejournal.com profile] impertinence

And the porny, schmoopy version of Thanksgiving- very sweet.

That Seven Letter Word by [livejournal.com profile] mikhale

A believable and wonderful vision of Winchester domestic bliss. Really lovely.

Reap the Wild Wind by [livejournal.com profile] maygra

Companion tale fleshing out the background of Dead Men Tell Great Tales . Sam dies confronting the demon and becomes a reaper. The confrontation with the demon is incredibly gripping - my heart was in my throat reading it. Dean's pain and grief (which blinds him to Sam's presence) is heartbreaking and hard to read. The story effortlessly weaves in familiar characters Bobby, Missouri, Ellen, Ash and Jo in a compelling way that the show has yet to manage and also features an outstanding original character in The Preacher - someone I would happily read more about.

Also EVp 9 Humour and Hijinks (gen) is now up to download at [livejournal.com profile] spnfic_podcast. Check it out - I read an extract from High Minded by [livejournal.com profile] alethialia for it.
fairyd123: (South Park Sam)
A Thousand Cranes by [livejournal.com profile] mikhale

Really gorgeous story, sparsely written which has Dean folding paper cranes - a thousand cranes for a single wish. The imagery in the piece is amazing (the multi coloured cranes nestling among the weapons in the trunk of the Impala, their final flight as Dean sets them free) and the raw emotion of a grieving Dean made me choke up a little. Wonderful.

I Put a Spell On You (Because You're Mine) by [livejournal.com profile] estrella30

Very funny crack fic which manages to pack mpreg, wingfic, genderswap and slimy tentacles into a mere 3000 words! Also whilst I don't like to rec WIPs because the frustration level can be too much waiting for the next part you seriously have to read her baby fic series which is a (currently) gen series which has Sam and Dean finding an abandoned baby. It's schmoopy and really beyond wonderful.

Mine by [livejournal.com profile] phantisma

Sam/Dean established D/s relationship

I recently discovered this author (along with her frequent co-author [livejournal.com profile] plutogirl10) and have been busy devouring every stroy on their journals and damn do they know how to do porn! This is a scorching hot, sensual piece with a toppy Sam and a very pliant Dean.

I would also recommend her ongoing Evil Sam and Dean series. (Sam/Dean non con (both Sam/Dean and Dean/Jo Sam/Jo which is one of the harshest scenes I've read in a long time)- Sam is (like every other evil Sam I've ever read) a little too horrendous in his atrocities for me to be all that affected by him (a subtler more emotional manipulation of Dean would be more chilling) but her Dean is fascinating and there's just something about the pairing that's just very compelling. I would link but its spread over a variety of very short chapters (its crying out to be posted in one word doc) but the first story in the series is The Balancing Point.

Carnical Rides by [livejournal.com profile] phantisma and [livejournal.com profile] plutogirl10

Sam/Dean/OFC Sam/Dean established D/s relationship

Very naughty threesome fic with Sam and Dean getting very frisky with an OFC at a carnival. Hey I recced something with het in it - go me!

Dead Men Don't Tell Tales

Wonderfully written wingfic story with Sam as an angel. Highly recommended.

Whistling in the Darknes by [livejournal.com profile] nymeria

Prequel to There the Crevasse by [livejournal.com profile] monkiedude. Sweet and affecting character stufy of Dean as he realises that he is just a little bit "different" to everyone else.

One Cloud Scattered Night by [livejournal.com profile] audrarose

Dean must journey into Sam's psyche after Sam becomes trapped in the world of his dreams. Extraordinary vivid story which shifts from one realty t another as Sam moves from one dream to the next changing ages and locations. The image of Dean trapped in the everlasting hallway with Bloody Mary behind him is very unsettling whilst the image of little Sam curled up safe at Dean's side in one of the never ending parade of motel rooms really did stay with me. Really highly recommended.

I am Become Death, Shatterer of Worlds by [livejournal.com profile] marishna

Sam/Dean character death

Very dark AU with zombies running amok and no happy ending in sight.

That Day (What a Marvelous Mess) by [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster

More zombies! This is an AU of [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster and [livejournal.com profile] mona1347's Lightverse which is an angsty series set in the future where Dean is married with three children but he and Sam can't stop sleeping with each other. Very strong and effective character study - plus zombies which I love!

Care and Feeding by [livejournal.com profile] fools_game

Listed as gen but the last paragraph has distinctly Wincest tones to it.

Sam gets cursed and turns into a cat. This is something of a qualified rec because to be honest I didn't find Dean, John or Sam's voices to be quite right - her John voice in particularly is fairly weak. But that doesn't really matter because this is the schmoopiest most adorable fic I've read in a very long time. Dean and little kitty Sam are the cutest things ever. It's the sort of fic that even makes a hardened cynic like myself smile!

Speaking of zombies 28 Weeks Later (the sequel to 28 Days Later) is apparently going to be filmed just across the road from me on Sunday night! No Cillian Murphy sadly (it's one of those cheap B list cast sequels) but apparently Robert Carlyle and Harold Parrineau are in it. I think I might wander along and see if I can watch the filming. Apparently there will be gunfire and exciting lighting effects. I'm so there!

If I may self-pimp for a moment I've now finished reading all of [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon's And Fools Shine On for [livejournal.com profile] spn_audio_novel. I'd love it if some of my shiny flist would check out the recordings and let me know what you think.

Finally if anyone was thinking of going to Asylum next year (the UK con that Jared is appearing at) the hotel is apparently nearly fully booked (it's a small hotel) so if you're undecided as to whether to go or not it might be worth booking the hotel now and worrying about your ticket later. You have to book the rooms through the event organiser but believe me you don;t want to get stuck in an overflow hotel. That happened to me once at a con and it completely sucked.

Thought I'd go with a suitably Halloween themed display for my journal this week. Look at how cute death is!

Loved Simon Said - definitely an episode I could get behind.

Impressively fic is already up based on the episode and this is a lovely gen piece featuring a conversation between Dean and Ellen after the end of the episode:

fairyd123: (Comic Sam/Dean)
Looks like everybody decided that the best cure for all the angst currently being displayed on the show was to write scorching hot porn. Damn they are some insanely smoking hot stories out there at the moment. These are some of my favourites:

Mistook the Nod for an Approval by [livejournal.com profile] improperlydone

Sam/Dean D/s

Dean in a leather collar on his knees in a dirty alley. Oh dear god! I have a real fondness for Sub Dean and Possessive Sam stories and this is just incredibly hot!

Boys and Their Toys by [livejournal.com profile] plutogirl10

Sam/Dean D/s

A dominant Dean and a highly creative use of a vibrator and the Impala. So kinky I blushed while reading it.

Take a Ride With Me by [livejournal.com profile] merepersiflage

A dominant Dean, a very sneaky Sam and more fun with sex toys.

Make a Scene by [livejournal.com profile] beanside

Dean gets hit by an interesting curse after eating a tainted caramel apple. Porny Halloween fun.

Changing tone here are a couple of strong post In My Time of Dying Fics:

Shattered by [livejournal.com profile] halfshellvenus

Sam/Dean non-con

Harsh, painful post ELAC story with an already destroyed Sam and Dean being pushed beyond their limits when Sam is possessed by a demon. Very strong Dean characterisation with a painfully realistic ending.

Miles to Go by [livejournal.com profile] raina_at

Lovely post IMTOD fic spanning the length of a year after John's death with Dean beginning to realise that when Sam says forever he means it.

The Totally Cliched Naked Cuddling Hypothermia Story by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes

Slight Sam/Dean

Despite having possibly the worst title ever this is pure wonderful, comforting schmoop. Dean nearly gets hypothermia on a hunt and Sam needs to take care of him.

And for a touch of self-pimping I've now recorded 5 chapters of And Fools Shine On by [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon for [livejournal.com profile] spn_audio_novel and the rest of the story will be up by the end of the week.
fairyd123: (Default)
At what point do you know you've become slightly obsessed with a show? Probably the point at which the nice trading card dealer that you've met at various events is calling you at home to discuss the Supernatural master set of trading cards you've agreed to buy from him. I want all the shiny autographs and piecework cards but told him I didn't want the admittedly pretty puzzle pieceworks cards as they could put the price of the set up to about £900!

On the recs:

Three Point Landing by [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon

[livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon wrote wingfic! And it's gorgeous. Dean tangles with an elemental and ends up with a full set of angel wings on Halloween. I love Sam's awe at his brother's new wings and Dean's increasingly silly explanations of his "costume." Wonderful on every level.

In My Time of Dying Coda's

There have been surprisingly few codas written to the episode (possibly because any of the post Devil's Trap fics work just as well for this episode) but here are the best of the stories out there:

Bullets for the Passed Away by [livejournal.com profile] mikhale

Short, sharp and painfully raw look at Sam and a practically suicidal Dean coping with their father's death. Features a somewhat unnecessary reference to an original character which momentarily pulled me out of the story (unless the piece is part of an established universe I'm not keen on authors cross referencing characters from their other stories. It's just too cute).

After Tomorrow by [livejournal.com profile] merepersiflage

Sam and Dean buring themselves in each other in order to deal with the pain of losing John. The sense of desperation and agony that the boys are feeling is strongly conveyed.

Dealing with Life (the Winchester Way) by [livejournal.com profile] clex_monkie89

Sam and Dean grieving their own way and being constantly surprised by what reminds them of their father. Dean's final breakdown is very well portrayed. Features the same original character as [livejournal.com profile] mikhale's story.

All I Want for You to Do is Take My Body Home by [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez

Agonisingly painful piece with a drowning in grief Dean performing a frantic blowjob on his brother as a desperate means of trying to anchor himself. Dean pov.

Meet Me in the Middle of the Air by [livejournal.com profile] mona1347

Companion piece to [livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez's story featuring the Sam pov. Beautifully sad.

SPN remix recs

SPN remix was a challenge for authors to remix existing Supernatural fics and the results are astonishing. The site is here, and you should definitely check out the stories as they are all superb. Here are my favourites (I'll update the post once I know who the authors are):

But Sometimes They Fly By .

Dean/OFC Dean/OMC

Remix of The Days Don't End Here my Friend by [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess

The original story killed me dead - immortality as tragedy with a seemingly immortal Dean outliving everyone he loves. The original piece was Dean's pov. The remix focuses on all of Sam's descendants who keep Dean company over the generations. I love how with only a paragraph or less for each person the author skillfully gives each of Dean's companions distinct personalities and quirks and tells the tale of their lives. The thought of Dean being continually left by those in his life because living with him and the hollowness inside him is too hard for them just breakes my heart. Deeply, profoundly haunting story which lingers long after you've read it.

There the Crevasse (Remix)

Remix of There the Crevasse by [livejournal.com profile] monkiedude

Remix of one of my favourite recent Sam/Dean stories with Dean being revealed as telepathic. The original was Sam's pov - the remix focuses on Dean. Fun, angsty and hot.

Go the Other Way (The Liquor in the Front remix)

Sam/Dean crossdressing

Fun remix of Go the Other Way by [livejournal.com profile] sevenfists. Sam pov - the third person approach takes a little getting used to as a narrative device but this is entertaining enough.

Landmarks (Wonders Bright and Rivers Remix)

Remix of Landmarks by [livejournal.com profile] estrella30. Gorgeous story with Sam and Dean battling an evil cat possession and showing how Dean always remembers the important things. Wonderful Dean characterisation.

Random recs

That Bite to Take by [livejournal.com profile] wheebubbles

Normally I'm not a fan of evil possessed Sam stories as I've yet to find an author who has managed to write evil sam with any degree of subtlety. But this story is surprisingly effective. Sam is possessed and promptly begins to systematically torture Dean both physically and sexually. And Dean..just takes it. The concept of a Dean who is willing to accept whatever poor treatment Sam dishes out to him simply because he's terrified to be alone is painful. Dean as abused spouse. Difficult to read and with a suitably bleak ending.

Under Sounds of Feathers by [livejournal.com profile] spinnyroses

I'm a sucker for wingfic and this is a fascinating tale which has Dean sprouting wings which don't stay with him for long.An intriguing tale which I hope the author continues.

Keeper's Post by [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon

Sam and Dean investigate an attack on a group of teenagers in Wisconsin. Typically strong narrative and wonderful Sam/Dean characterisation.
fairyd123: (Smiley Jensen)
Myths About Fish by [livejournal.com profile] zionsstarfish

Dean gets cursed and winds up as a mer-man. Gently sweet (Sam's dismay at realising that Dean is truly happier than he's been in a long time is adorable) and funny.

Fractured Fairytales by Mistwraith

Yes I know it's on FF net but don't let that put you off. This is a very funny spin on the fairytale Sleeping Beauty with Dean in the starring role. Cute crack fic.

MRSA by [livejournal.com profile] janissa11

Lengthy pre-series fic in which poor Dean falls victim to the MRSA infection. Her characterisation of John, Sam and Dean is truly wonderful.

Luna by [livejournal.com profile] moveablehistory

Adorable crack fic in which Dean is turned into a little moth. Very well done and incredibly sweet - especially Sam worrying about him being eaten by giant motel cockroaches!

Winchester Letters by [livejournal.com profile] spinnyroses

Sam/Dean Suggestions of John/Dean

Three years after Sam and Dean's death John finds a series of letters they had written to him.

Highly unusual piece which is more artwork than story with its depiction of the bloodstained notes that John finds. The narrative is unclear which adds to the disquieting feel. Unsettling.
fairyd123: (Jared S2 Promo)
Beautiful Things by [livejournal.com profile] ellipsisblack

Sam/Dean Dean/OMC

Inspired by the season 2 promo fic (and how much do I love The CW for releasing promo pics of our boys looking for all the world like rent boys) this is a well written, erotically charged piece with a disturbing and very original OMC.

Life Among the Dead by [livejournal.com profile] destina

Long, slow, sensuous first time story filled with wonderful imagery. The story follows Sam and Dean over the course of a week and portrays their angst ridden slide into an incestous relationship in a very believable way.

Lying in Ruins by [livejournal.com profile] mikhale

Angsty Dean character study with Dean trying to reconcile three different views of his brother - Sammy the little brother, Sam the betrayer who left him for Stanford and the Sam that stays by his side. I love how Sam continually tries to reassure Dean with touch that he isn't going to leave him but Dean is never convinced.

For the Ones We've Lost My Soul Will Grieve by [livejournal.com profile] spinnyroses

Sam/Dean Post Devil's Trap Character Death

If you read enough fan fic you'll guess the twist pretty quickly but it's a testament to the strength of the story that it's none the less affecting for it.

I love the current Five Things meme so here are some of my favourites:

Five Times Dean Told Sam He Loved Him by [livejournal.com profile] furiouscupofcat

I confess I almost didn't click on this because I actually struggle with the concept of Dean declaring his undying love - it always rubs me the wrong way when I read it in fic but this story is all about Dean showing Sam how much he loves him without ever saying the words. The first drabble is wonderful - an incredibly vivid depiction of a little and terrified Dean running from the burning house with a squealing Sam in his arms. And the last one is pure unadulterated, wonderful schmoop which leaves you feeling all glowy inside. (Although do Americans use the word pub? Sometimes Brit words do rather stand out in fic) An excellent read if you're in need of a pick me up.

Also best username ever!

Five Times Dean Saved Sam's Life Without Sam Realising by [livejournal.com profile] bittersweet_art

Five mini tales of Dean's utter devotion to his brother. From making baby Sammy happy, to breaking his own arm to stop Sam from riding into traffic, preventing Sam from being lynched by cruel classmates, saving drunken frat boy Sam from a werewolf to saving him from himself. Sweet and vivid.

And things were going so well.................

The convention organiser has gone back on announcing Jensen and pulled all reference to him from the message boards because of "contractual problems". Which either means Jensen is suddenly doing something else at the same time of the convention (nice if it means a new role for him), his people are being difficult about him attending the event (the organiser has previously had his proposed guest's agents suddenly decide that they shouldn't do it ) or he's just flat out changed his mind.

Pretty disappointing really.

But anybody depressed by the change should check out Killing Time in Detention by [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess.

Hilarious, very original look at Sam and Dean in high school getting themselves purposefully sent to detention so that they can see if their teacher really is devouring his students whole. Includes pictures of the notes Sam and Dean pass between each other to quell the boredom of detention. I just love Sam's logical sound arguments as to why the monster should eat Dean first because as a result of Dean's exercise programme he's lean, low in fat and would definitely form part of an evil monster's healthy diet!
fairyd123: (Default)
Chains of Babylon by [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster

Part of the Heart universe.

When a hunt goes badly wrong Sam is lead to believe that Dean is dead. Dean meanwhile is captured and tortured at the local asylum. Sam rescues him, but Dean is suffering from amnesia and doesn't remember him.

Painful, beautiful story about Dean remembering who he is and the multi-faceted relationship he shares with Sam. The characterisation is wonderful - Sam makes me cry in this. He's utterly devoted (I love the little moment where we realise that he hasn't eaten for 2 days because he's been too terrified to leave Dean) and so determined to spend his life with this new Dean to make this damaged, amnesiac Dean understand that his place is by his side, whilst at the same time he's desperate for "his" Dean to come back. Sam's realisation that Dean knows nothing about them, about how far their relationship has came from its awkward early stages is heartbreaking. It's also fascinating to see a Dean unaware of his history questioning his role as a hunter.

The Days Don't End Here, My Friend by [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess

Fairly bleak future fic in which a seeming invulnerable Dean continues to fight accompanied by Sam's lineage. Strong Dean character study.

High Minded by [livejournal.com profile] alethialia

Laugh out loud story in which Dean gets very very high after being slimed by possessed mushrooms. Dean as war general saving the world from his evil red flannel shirt is sheer comic genius. Utterly hilarious.

Real Men Don't Make Cheesecake by [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess

Gen Dean/OFC

Cute story in which Dean is forced into taking home economics at school. I love how Dean's delight at finding himself surrounded by nubile cheerleaders gives way to pride in his sewing and cooking abilities. The OFC is particularly well drawn too.

Not Gonna Be Alone Tonight by [livejournal.com profile] rachel_shanz

Sexy story featuring a jealous possessive Dean trying to show Sam that he belongs to him.

You Can't Blame Will o' Wisps by [livejournal.com profile] mikhale

Snarky, very funny, car porn with Sam and Dean getting lost on the highways of America.

Immutable Law by [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon

Sam/Dean GirlSam Dubious Consent

Sam is kidnapped by a creature that threatens to harm Dean if Sam doesn't give him what he wants - one sin - incest.

God I love this story. The "villain" of the piece is genuinely disturbing. His manner which is casual, almost indifferent makes his threats to render Dean a vegetable profoundly chilling. I love the genderswap section. GirlSam is cute, flirty and sassy and its an eye opener to view Dean through Sam's eyes as he's thrown ever so slightly off kilter by the cute girl that he can't figure out. The sex scene is wonderful - scorching hot, gentle and very tender. Its almost painful to compare the scene of Dean making love to GirlSam to the quasi rape scene the morning after. The sex scene is hard to read with Sam terrified out of his mind but resolved to "rape" Dean if it means saving him and Dean is humiliated, subdued but willing to guide Sam through the mechanics. But if anything I found the fight leading up to the sex to be almost unbearable to read as Sam is forced to use his strength against Dean to make him submissive. As the author says "Power... not held in check". The ending is painfully realistic with Dean tacitly acknowledging the sexual feelings that run under the surface of their affection for each other but admitting that they're not over it. Not yet.

If you're looking for wonderful characterisation and Wincest which deals realistically with all the nasty consequences of sleeping with your brother this is definitely a story worth reading. Chapters 3 & 4 are friendlocked due to content so you will need to drop Eighth Horizon a line and ask her to friend you to read them.

And once you've read those race over to Supernatural Media where they have nine clips from the special features on the Supernatural dvd. There's snippets from production featurettes and three deleted scenes - from the Pilot, Hookman and Faith (we get to see the poor guy who gave his life for Dean getting killed). Love that Kripke is man enough to admit that his initial Pilot script was a mess because having read it - well he's not kidding. The "Casting " section is adorable. Love Jared saying "I'd love to be in it if y'all have me." Cute as can be.

Slowly updating my del.icio.us account with my various recs. Hopefully it will make searching for particular pairings or sub-genres easier.

I have a real desire at the moment for wingfic. Anybody got any good recs? I do remember reading one story which I should have recced on here about Dean becoming an angel after being accidentally stabbed by Sam with some kind of magic knife. I remember it ends with Sam having to cut away Dean's wings. It was very good and I just can't remeber the name of it. Anyone know?

And finally a rec which is hands down the silliest Supernatural story I've ever read.

Deliberation by [livejournal.com profile] eighth_horizon

Depiction of the fight between Sam, Dean and John before Sam left for Stanford. The change in POV from Sam to John three quarters of the way through this threw me a bit but otherwise this is a sparing and brutal depiction of the fight that rips the Winchesters apart.

The Pardox of Living by [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing

Plot based post devil's trap story which has Dean and Sam in Alaska searching for missing children. Great Sam/Dean interaction and I especially love the photo links included in the story.
fairyd123: (Default)
So I'm all booked up for Asylum the Supernatural convention that Jared is attending next year in the UK. Thanks to a friend who booked in advance for me I have the incredibly low ticket number of 10! Really looking forward to this one - I go to a lot of conventions anyway (three so far this year, a Battlestar Galactica event this weekend and a Serenity con in September) but I am ridiculously excited at the prospect of meeting Jared! Is anyone else going to this? I would love to meet up with other fans out there - get a chance to put a face to a user name!

So how did I manage to miss that Ben Edlund has joined the writing team? I love that guy - his Smile Time episode of Angel was hilarious and his Jaynestown episode of Firefly was comic genius. I guess they've bought him in to handle the quirkier episodes. Which is promising because I confess I wasn't a fan of Hell House - the show's first attempt to do out and out comedy. The whole endeavour fell rather flat for me and the boys just seemed really uncomfortable in that episode - their laughter just felt very forced.

And finally a rec: Midnight at the Majestic by [livejournal.com profile] maygra.

Written for the 50 states challenge and set post Devil's Trap the story features a grief stricken Sam and Dean searching for echoes of the dead in Georgia. Highly atmospheric and rich with detail this story is a feast for the senses and the Sam/Dean characterisation is as superb as I'vecome to expect from [livejournal.com profile] maygra. Love the details of Dean staring down the gator and Sam protecting Dean and his grief from the ghosts he sees all around. And I love the ending - the one ghost that Sam can't see - but Dean can. Wonderful.
